Just a short note here to let anyone whose been wondering if that favorite Firefox extension, Adblock Plus will work in Firefox 3 need look no further than Mozilla’s Firefox Add-Ons site. The same goes for the Adblock Filterset.G Updater add-on for Adblock Plus that updates the AdBlock Plus extension with an entire new filters every 4-7 days in addition to any Filtersets you may have subscribed to in AdBlock Plus itself. I wouldn’t be without both of these excellent extensions.
The plugins have been updated for compatibility with Firefox 3 for awhile now but seeing as how so many folks are currently visiting an old post on my other site about AdBlock Plus and Firefox beta 3, I thought I’d post an update here for the final release.
Nice of me isn’t it?

I’ve just recently (last week) upgraded to Firefox 3.0, running on Mac OS 10.4.11. I noticed AdBlock plus is not enabled. When I go to “Addons” on the Tools menu, AdBlock Plus appears to be enabled (it offers me the option to disable) but when I go to “Adblock Plus…” in the Tools menu, there is an alert in red in the preference window that says “Adblock Plus is disabled. You can edit any filters in the list, but those won’t be applied until you reenable.” And BTW, it’s not blocking any ads.
I have tried disabling then reenabling, reinstalling AdBlock Plus, but to no avail.
Using AdBlock Plus 0.7.5.5, which is the latest version AFAIK.
I appreciate all the work you have put into this, and I loved having AdBlock (one of the main reasons I’ve kept using Firefox). But it’s just not working in this configuration. Sorry. Maybe I’ll try it on a Mac that can run OS 10.5…
ziva,
It sounds like you may have mistaken me for the author of AdBlock Plus but I’m not actually. Just an avid Firefox user and general tech-head.
However, one thing I’ve noticed on version 7.5.5 which is the latest version, is that no matter whether AdBlock is enabled or disabled (via the toolbar or status bar icon), the right click menu (on a Windows machine) always states “Enable AdBlock Plus”. This glitch doesn’t keep AdBlock Plus from working properly for myself but it may manifest itself worse in OSX.
Anyway, head to the AdBlockPlus.org forums and let them know what’s happening. I’m sure yours is an isolated case since yours is the first time I’ve heard of AdBlock Plus not working for Mac users.
Hope you get it fixed.
